Can anyone give me advice about seeking child support?

my niece is 11 and never recognized by her dad. we know the mans name and the military base where he is stationed but..when we went to the state to have him start paying child support they said they needed his social security num. which i think is ridiculous cause thats not public knowledge .(i thought that was their job). what do we do?Can anyone give me advice about seeking child support?
Is the father named on the birth certificate? If he is than you need to hire an attorney and they will get you what is necessary to get all the child support - back, current, and future - that is due to the Mom/child.





If the father is NOT named on the birth certificate you have little to no recourse unless you have a paternity test done proving that he is the father.





The military is a great place to contact if he is named on the birth certificate because they take these matters very seriously. If he was mandated 11 years ago to pay child support and hasn't he could be in serious legal trouble as well as trouble with the military.Can anyone give me advice about seeking child support?
Go to your states web site and look for child support enforcement information, most give step by step instructions on what to do. SSN helps but gather everything you guys know, the more info the better. I know the MI web site has it listed under DHS. There are also child support enforcement agencies that may or may not charge a fee, such as www.csskids.com. Look into all state help 1st, if they are not helpful, try the federal government as they oversee all child support. Good luck.
