What are you afraid of? Fear is a very good thing, it lets you be wary of your surroundings and keeps you from getting in trouble. If it is fear of falling, go swimming and take some diving lessons, take tumbling lessons and acrobatics all of this so you learn to fall and land safely. If it is fear of speed, learn how to control it with confidence. Have a ski that will be secure under your foot, and a boot that is tight so it supports you. Keep taking the lessons, ask for a certified instructor who can work with your fears and build your confidence. I've skied for 50 + years and taught and I get scared at times, it is normal. Anyone who is not scared at times is dangerous. The difference is what scares me is a drop in to a chute that is near vertical, for you it is a green run. Practice on a slope where you are comfortable, go higher on the hill when you are ready not before. A good instructor will encourage you and push you gently to more challenging terrain within your skill level. Push your skills then drop back in to your comfort zone. Have fun, I hope this helps. Any good books or other instructional aids or even advice about skiing?
You just need to take your time skiing on a trial until you are confident to ride down the slope without being terrified.- If that means staying on the bunny hill all day, then do that. Your supposed to have fun while skiing, and enjoy flying down the mountain. If you ride down the mountain in fear you'll never get better, or really enjoy it. Besides if your afraid and just focus on being scared, you're more likely to fall -where as if you were thinking about what actions you should be taking to soar down the mountain, you'd be doing just that. The better you get the less you'll be afraid. It just about be confident, and having fun.
You did not explain what you are exactly afraid of. I have a fear of heights, but still will climb high trees and enjoy the out doors, even look of the edge of a cliff. If you are scared of injuring yourself, wear a helmet and go skiing. Ski at your pace and over time you should get more comfortable with it.
I have an knee that will go out of socket to the right about two inches from a motorcycle injury with a car. I wear a brace and go skiing all the time. There is a fear of hurting my back and/or knee again, but I enjoy the outdoor. Wish you well with it.
it just takes practice. you have to like it, or else you won't get any better, or any more comfortable on the slopes. start on easy runs, then try doing them faster, and trying to keep your ski's more parallel ect. practice technique on the easier runs and you will be more comfortable on the harder ones.
I ski double blacks, and I am somewhat fearful also. But im probably fearful in a different way. Im afraid of getting out of control. What are you afraid of. If your just plain afraid, I suggest you keep going, practicing, and taking lessons to break the fear.
