Any advice about the debit cards that you can load with money before travelling in asia and australia?

Going away for a year and wonder what is easiest and safest way to have local currency, will be able to top up via phone or net from my main account in UKAny advice about the debit cards that you can load with money before travelling in asia and australia?
Hi...for Australia I would have an account accessible via ATM and only keep money you need in there. Careful where you use the net to transfer money - phone would be safer. Asia different story - minimal cash and everthing on credit card.Any advice about the debit cards that you can load with money before travelling in asia and australia?
I would take a prepaid credit card with you from the UK. Visa or MasterCard will work and can be topped up from the UK via a standing order. www.mycashplus.co.uk for a prepaid Mastercard.

It can be topped up via a standing order but if you run out of money, leave the top up instructions at home with parent/friend etc and they can reload it at any Post Office or Money shop.

Top up at PO takes 24 hours to credit account. Money shop is instant.
My recommendation would be to open a Nationwide account. Their debit card works OK (my daughter went around the world on one) and their charges are, or are near to, the cheapest. You can use internet banking to keep an eye on things and to transfer money to/from other accounts..

Be careful with some card providers who charge a fixed fee for each overseas transaction (the Nationwide don't). A friend's daughter, unaware of this, only took out small amounts of cash quite frequently and ran out of money due to the fees. If you have a fixed fee card, take out larger amounts infrequently.
Have a look at moneysupermarket.com, go to the credit card section and press for prepaid credit cards and there is a large selection that comes up, they all have information on and how to top up if your abroad and some of them have no monthly fee to use them and others only charge you 拢1.50 to withdraw money out abroad, some of them charge a heck of a lot more, hope this helps and have a fantastic time in Australia, its an amazing country.
Teachers Credit Union has a debit card that is linked to Visa. Try there
carrying money or traveler checks can be dangerous if not a thing of the past. The countries you mentioned do take US ATM cards, however you can always pick up a temp visa card, which you put a certain amount of money on it ahead of time. This is good when you may be buying something online and afraid of potential fraud. At least with the temporary visa card, you know exactly how much money to spend and don't over do it with a regular one.
Any Visa card
