I am due June 8th with my first child and shopping for baby bottles is a little confusing for me with all of the variety out there. I don't know what the differences are between them. Also the nipples for the bottles are all different shaped, are there some that are better to use than others? Which ones are more ';natural';?Any moms out there that have advice about the best baby bottles for newborns? What worked, what didn't?
I swear by Avent. My son had no excessive gas or colic with these bottle--something about the nipple design. Also, the bottles themselves have inserts to turn them into milk storage containers, sippy cups, you name it. They are well worth the money. They also have microwave bottle sanitizers (a must-have for bottle nipples!) and a pretty good breast pump.
Someone else mentioned leaking; I found that if you look under the screw-top, there are three lines; you have to line the numbers on the base of the nipple up with these lines and close the bottle super-tight to prevent the leaking. Since I was always looking under the screw-tops to make sure I got them clean before closing my son's bottles, it took no more energy to line up the nipple before closing it.
Hope this helps!Any moms out there that have advice about the best baby bottles for newborns? What worked, what didn't?
I was stumped on this as well with my son. I would suggest not to buy lots of just one brand - you don't know which he will do good on, and which he won't. I tried them all ~ Playtex Ventair (Bad spit-up), Dr. Brown's (Really bad spit-up), Gerber (Did ok), and Avent (Worked great). So, we now only use Avent since he didn't seem to get as sick on them as the others.
One thing I will tell you about Avent - they tend to leak ALL OVER your baby every once in while. I don't know what happens, we have been diligent about tightening the top, etc but it still seems to leak once in a while. I have heard lots of other mom's say the same thing.
You're right, they all seem to claim they are the best and supposed to be shaped ';just like the breast';. Bottom line is this: buy just a few of each, don't go overboard. Once your baby is here, he/she will do better on one over the other, then go buy more of those. Good Luck!!!! Congrats in advance on the babe:)
It is really up to your baby. I think the Playtex drop ins are good because they contract like the breast. I also like the Playtex vent air, I have heard good things about Dr Brown's bottles as well. I suggest getting smaller nipples for your newborn and get bigger as the baby grows. They have different sizes for different ages and it is important to use them the way the should be. Hope this helps!
4 years ago, i went with the cheap brand because i was overwhelmed and it worked out fine for us.
my cousin swears by advent, she even bought the advent sterilizer.
my son only liked the Gerber ones. You can try any kind but your child will tell you what they like.
I like Dr Brown's bottles! I tried using playtex ventaire with the natural shape nipple, supposed to be like the breast but my son never liked the bigger nipple and plus it was firm. I like Dr Brown's because the nipple was smaller and softer plus they help prevent air getting in their tummies! I have been using them for 5mo now and will never switch to anything else. Also I think they will hook up to any breast pump....
I liked Advent. It was easier to go betwen the bottle and breast for us with them
I liked Pur %26amp; Avent, I (and my baby) also prefered wide-neck bottles/tets to the standard ones
