I am getting married soon and I would like to know.If I keep my maiden name and add my new husbands name, for instance (Diana Etzel Porter ) do I still have to change my social security and taxes, and all the other things? Thanks so much!Need some advice about changing my name after marriage?
If you will still be using your maiden name on all your documents than you would not need to legally change. But if you will be using the hyphenated name on checks, taxes, etc.than you would need to change at least your social security card.Need some advice about changing my name after marriage?
you can use your married name with your husbands name. Your social security # stays the same. It could benefit you both if you both file as married. Whomever makes the higher income should be declared head of household so you both can get a better tax return. Concerning taxes it is a good idea to consult with a tax pro like HR Block. About name change, lets say your name is ';Mary Louise Smith from birth. And lets say your fiancee is John Jacob Allen. You can use ';Mary Louise Allen-Smith. This in case you have some friends from the past that would like to catch up on old times. I missed some high school reunions and lost track of good friends because they marry and drop their maiden name. Explain this to your fiancee and tell him you just want to be easy to contact by long lost friends and family. Hope this helped. As soon as I changed my surname back to my maiden name, my husband's last name is an extension of my whole name and he was perfectly OK with it. He is an attorney and helped me do it.
From personal experience if I ever get married again I would hyphenate the two last names (maiden)-(married) so that you don't have to change all your info.
Social security %26amp; DL should be the first things you update upon the name change.
My last name is currently hyphenated the way I showed at the top, but I mostly go by my maiden name.
So many women keep asking this question? Why is this rocket science? IF you add another name to your current name, you IDs should reflect that.
If you change your legal name it should be changed on everything. It's not that hard to change your name.
Diana, is that you? I went ot school with you. This is Yeal.
Of course you have to change you name on all types of cards..
I'm pretty sure you do becasue there is an addition to your name.
