I want to buy one that turns on the lights and makes a loud reaction and calls the police when an intruder breaks in.
My partner found one that charges you $19.00 a month to call the police.
I know that there has to be one that calls them for free.
If you know of any please provide links.
ThanksI need some advice about home security systems?
This is just a repost, so if you read my previous post to the same question disregard.
First of all, nothing calls the police. What your friend found is a company that will monitor your alarm The monitoring company calls the police or whatever instructions you want them to follow. the 19 bucks per month covers the monitoring fee, the installation of the system is another story. Voice dialers are available but if you point them to the police you will most likely end up with the police knocking at your door with a not so friendly disposition (And not because your place was broken into)
As far as choosing a system. Light control is definately an option. For cheap and troublesome X-10 has add on components that will control your lights with a simple dry contact or siren output. This requires a module that communicates to special switches. I say troublesome because, although the technology is really kinda cool, it is the cheap version and often goes funky. (Lights come on for no apparent reason or don't come on at all). In some applications it works fine, others troublesome This is the risk you take for buying cheap.
For the security system part, I would definately suggest you stay away from anything wireless. Unless of course you are a sucker for punishment. For more info on the reasons I hate wireless security systems see my rant at http://ezinearticles.com/?Wireless-Secur鈥?/a>
I have also posted some articles on security systems in general as well as ways to help protect your home with non-electronic means. These can be found on my website at http://www.keepsafesystems.ca Protection101 and false alarm info should be of interest. There are also various other tidbits in the archive. Mostly stuff in progress ad other little titbits. I recently added a section called Q%26amp;A which posts some of the questions I answered through here.I need some advice about home security systems?
It would be a miracle to find one. Thats how companies can charge so little for the system, or the install, because they will make it up in monitoring fees. So you will either pay big up front for the system, or on the back end for monitoring. Also don't be cheap and get less sensors than you will need. Walk around your house and imagine yourself as the burglar. Cover as much space with one sensor as possible.
Buy an Automatic Phone Dialer Motion Alarm...Or several.....
This way the system will dial your phone and you can call whomever you want to......

i dnt know were your living at? but i bought a system that is wireless and plugs into your home phone and calls 3 differant phone #s with your own voice to let you know that a breakin is happening, try radioshack i beefed mine up with night and motion detecters camaras it cost me about 300 and a monthly phone line to install
Probably not, your asking for a machine to respond to a human and that isn't possible. Alarm systems that alert the police are costly, ones that run through a service are less costly and less helpful. I answer those types of alarms and usually the wait is one hour. After that, if your lucky the police may stop by. You also have to consider that some folks know how to short circuit your power, is this alarm self contained and powered? Alarms are only so good, lights that come on by themselves Motion sensitive are inexpensive but they too are hooked up to the main power line. Consider where you live, the type of dwelling and what your threat is. If your threat is through the door a simple door jam will work just fine, if windows are involved you have a bigger problem. Are you in the city? Country? each has their own technical issues.
universally it is illegal for automatic devices to call the police in a NONlifethreatening emergency
you CAN get one installed that will call your pager ( old format pager NOT a cell phone) then you can call the police.
ps, I bet they are charging you no more then 100 buck for the 20 dollar a month system,, the FREE call out one,, it will be over 800 bucks to install,, no on goign fee to reduce the price.
TANSTAFL- there are no such things as free lunches
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmm
well for one thing you can start by not announcing you need a security system...
this may sound strange but why not ask the police for a recommendation???? they work with those and they have to know which ones are the most reliable.
police don't accept calls from burglar alarms. sorry.
